C. BOARD

C-1.  Consideration, discussion and possible action regarding road construction in College Station

President Tim Jones welcomed the Mayor, City Council, and City Administration to CSISD.  Mr. Jones recognized Superintendent Eddie Coulson who introduced Deputy Superintendent for Business and Operations Mike Ball.  Mr. Ball publicly thanked Deputy City Manager Terry Childers for working with CSISD to obtain building permits for projects.

Mr. Ball reviewed the current CSISD Projects Underway.  The passage of the 2007 Bond Election allowed for new projects:  Creek View Elementary School (Eagle Drive & Newport) – Notice to Proceed issued 1/708; College Hills Elementary School (Williams & Gilchrist) – project scheduled to begin 6/1/08; and renovation of Athletic Facilities at AMCHS – Notice to Proceed issued 1/7/08.  Additionally, the past bond package financed the acquisition of 65 acre tract at the intersection of Baron Road and Victoria – presently forming Long Range Educational Planning Committee likely to consider future uses for this land.

Mr. Ball discussed the infrastructure needs for CSISD.  The needs as they pertain to the Creek View Elementary School located at Eagle Drive and Newport are:

  • The Creek View project includes construction of Eagle Drive across the entire southern width of the CSISD property
  • At the conclusion of the CSISD project, a gap is likely to exist in Eagle Drive from the eastern edge of the CSISD property to just west of Longmire
  • The completion of Eagle Drive so that it connects Longmire to Victoria would provide an additional east/west corridor for the College Station community.

CSISD is presently forming a Long Range Educational Planning Committee that is likely to consider future uses for a 65 Acre tract of land at the intersection of Baron Road and Victoria.  Although no definite plans exist at this time, this site has been discussed in the past as a potential site for a second high school.  The needs as they pertain to the 65 Acre tract at the intersection of Baron Road and Victoria are:

  • the completion of Victoria so that it connects with HWY 40 would provide an additional north-south corridor for our community.

Additionally:

·        moving forward with construction of the planned widening of Baron Road from Victoria to HWY 6 would provide infrastructure in place before increased traffic

C-2.  Consideration, discussion and possible action regarding joint use agreements between CSISD and the City of College Station

Superintendent Eddie Coulson recognized Deputy Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction and Personnel Greg McIntyre who reviewed information and led discussion as it pertains to joint facility use between CSISD and the City of College Station.  Facilities are used jointly for Kids Klub, an after-school care program for children.  Approximately 980 children in all elementary and intermediate schools are serviced Monday through Friday from 3:30 until 6:00 p.m. from August until May each year.  City Basketball and Volleyball, Xtra Ed Classes, Xtra Ed Workshops, Xtra Ed specialty Classes, Church Ministries, Motorcycle Safety Classes, Brazos Valley Junior Volleyball and Summer Day Camp are all services that are provided jointly by CSISD and the City of College Station.  Discussion occurred.

C-3.  Consideration, discussion and possible action regarding joint projects between CSISD and the City of College Station

Deputy Superintendent Greg McIntyre discussed the definition of collaboration:  to cooperate with or willingly assist.  The collaborative efforts of the City of College Station and College Station ISD clearly benefit the local community by maximizing the usage of public facilities and services.  The two entities look forward to collaborative projects which serve to further benefit the community.

C-4.     Consideration, discussion and possible action regarding possible future bond elections

President Tim Jones and Mayor Ben White led discussion.
