President Susan Lowy reviewed the items that must be considered when adopting a school calendar. These items are: New legislation that requires school district calendars to have a student start date the week of August 21 unless the school district applies for a waiver to allow instruction to begin sooner than the week of August 21; School calendars must have 187 workdays for teachers; School calendars must have 180 school days for students unless the district applies for a waiver to allow students to attend 177 days to give the district ten staff development days; The number of days in each six weeks and each semester should be approximately the same; CSISD traditionally aligns its Spring Break with TAMU's. Several College Station ISD employees were present at the Open Forum to discuss Academic Calendar Planning issues. A&M Consolidated High School employee, Jamie Bassett was in favor of starting school at a later date and having a shorter Winter Break.
